Michael Mahoney,
Faculty and Coach
Michael Mahoney has twelve years of experience working in public education. He is currently faculty with AMA as a partner in developing the Inclusive Program Components, while also enrolled in a graduate program for wilderness therapy counseling. Previously Michael taught for two years with the Teach for America program on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico. Following this time, he joined Louisiana-based high school charter network Collegiate Academies, where he worked for nearly a decade. During his time at Collegiate, Michael worked at and partnered with schools within the network on the design and leadership of programs for students with low incidence disabilities, including programs for students with developmental disabilities and emotional and behavioral disabilities. Before heading to graduate school, Michaal ended his time at Collegiate on the Network Team leading and supporting low incidence, therapeutic, transition and MTSS programming across all seven schools. Micheal is a certified trainer in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) through the Residential Child Care Project at Cornell University, and additionally he is trained in facilitating restorative practices through the INternational Institute of Restorative Practices (IIRP). Michael has a B.A. in English from the University of Virginia and is actively pursuing an MA in counseling from at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado.
